Salt Lake Community Action Program is an anti-poverty agency.
The Salt Lake Community Action Program provides a large variety of services to meet the needs of low income residents in Salt Lake County and Tooele County. Our purpose is to create programs that empower low-income people to enhance the quality of their lives. We assist clients in designing and implementing strategies that will create solutions to their problems.
We provide employment assistance, weatherization, food assistance, housing assistance, head start programs, and utility assistance. We also act as public policy advocates. Our goal is to promptly stabilize a family in crisis and avoid the long-term consequences of costly dependency. We support a family’s progress to self-sufficiency.
Community Action Programs were founded across the United States over 35 years ago by Congress as a centerpiece of the War on Poverty. Since then over 1300 Community Action Programs have been founded. CAPs are funded by the Community Service Block Grant.
